PAUL KNOX hit a club record 186 to help visitors WOODCOTE ease past last season’s Premier Division champions MORTIMER WEST END. Knox fell 14 runs short of a double century as Woodcote ran out winners by 147 runs.
Knox and Will Macdonald shared an opening stand of 152 and the 307 total was the highest in the Premier Division this season.
Mortimer West End never looked likely to approach the Woodcote total and a stand of 61 between Tom Mackenzie and Gupta formed the only real resistance as they were bowled out in 33 overs.
James Worsfold was the most successful Woodcote bowler with 3-24, followed closely by Jonny Clark with 3-30.
Woodcote’s win effectively ended Mortimer West End’s slim title hopes leaving what looks like a three-horse race with favourites, West Reading, in pole position and Sulhamstead and Woodcote in close contention.

PEPPARD ran out five-wicket winners at BCS GROSVENOR. Skipper Muniyasamy called correctly and invited the home side to bat.
The Peppard openers Mo Khan and Roy Hayden bowled tightly, conceding only 10 runs off the first 10 overs whilst taking three wickets.
Wicketkeeper Bhatti and, later, Kayan provided some backbone to the innings but other wickets fell regularly as the bowlers shared the spoils and Grosvenor were all out for 143 in the last over.
Roy Hayden opened the batting with Mick Chard junior and saw the shine off the new ball through 26 overs before Hayden fell on 37.
Chard was out in the 27th over, alongside skipper Muniyasamy. A fine knock of 29, which included six fours, by Ashley Hayden, together with 36 extras, saw Peppard complete the double over Grosvenor with eight overs to spare.

CHECKENDON narrowly missed out on victory at home to SOUTH EAST READING in a much improved performance. Consistent batting, led by John Acland-Hood’s 37, enabled them to reach 191 allout in the final over of their innings. Atif Asid was the visitors’ most successful bowler, taking three wickets.
South East Reading replied confidently, reaching 100-2 at the half way drinks break with Zafar Ali leading the way.
Thereafter they appeared baffled by the introduction of some slow left arm off breaks from Matthew Wickens who finished with 6-31 in 12 overs as the visitors lost seven wickets for 66 runs.
The visitors were only saved from defeat by an obdurate 24 not out from Waqar Ahmed who played out the final five balls of the match leaving the visitors 25 runs behind with one wicket remaining.

STOKE ROW’S relegation battle suffered a dent as title-chasing SULHAMSTEAD secured a 46-run victory at Newlands Lane.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat but were in early trouble at 31-3. Tristan Evans and Jamie Seward resurrected the Sulhamstead ship with an important 71-run stand before both were caught behind off Sam Fletcher in quick succession.
Mark Godfrey and Sanjay Dove continued the visitors’ assault as they patiently waited to hit anything loose to the boundary.
Dove and Craig Palmer fell in the space of four balls to Dion Sampson and when Fletcher cleaned out the visitors tail, Sulhamstead ended on 197 all out.
Taking the old ball, off spinner Marc Thompson and seam-bowling captain Matt Gill decimated the Stoke Row top order during an extraordinary passage of play.
Thompson trapped Allan May lbw and clean bowled Matt Shales, while Will Bishop was caught at point to leave the hosts on 5-3 after six overs.
Six maidens in the next seven overs continued to build the pressure on the hosts before Richard Ashton skied an attempted drive to cover, leaving Stoke Row on 9-4 off 13 overs. Stand-in captain Sam Boughton and Fletcher enacted a recovery which saw the ball dispatched to all parts before the second drinks break had the hosts at 89-4.
Continuing the bizarre theme of the day, Fletcher was eventually dismissed lbw as the first wicket of three during a triple-wicket over from Palmer which reduced Stoke Row to 114-7.
Though Boughton continued to hit hard, his dismissal caught on the boundary off Gill was the beginning of the end as Stoke Row were all out for 151.

GORING gained a vital win in their battle to avoid relegation from Division 1 as they beat fellow strugglers BRADFIELD. Having elected to bat, Bradfield were kept in check by some tight Goring bowling and fielding with Donny Norman picking up his second five wicket haul of the league season.
Bob Bolton bowled a tight and probing opening spell for Bradfield, but with the game evenly poised, an unbeaten sixth wicket partnership of 80 by Jamie Vickery and Simon Butterfield saw Goring home.

PEPPARD 2nds recorded their second Division 2 win of the season when they beat visitors BCS GROSVENOR 2nds by one wicket.
The visitors lost the toss and were asked to bat as Richard Woolfrey and Rob Dyer bowled tight lines with regular successes.
The change bowlers, Mick Chard senior and Alan Mayers continued with the success and Waqas’ 108, which included 20 fours, was the only beacon of light as 10-man Grosvenor were bowled out for 173, leaving Peppard 53 overs for the chase.
Don Townsin and James Hearn made a steady start to the response but both were out with the total 42. Wickets fell regularly at one end despite Chris Proudfoot’s spritely knock. It was left to skipper Gary Legg to provide the backbone to the innings. His 54, which included a six and six fours, almost saw Peppard home before he fell for 54.
A late flurry of wickets saw the last pair, Rob Dyer and Mick Chard needing two runs to win. They survived six balls with the scores tied until Dyer drove through the offside to give Peppard victory.
