AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U14s went down to a 4-1 defeat at home to HEADLEY YOUTH HOTSPURS U14s in the East Berks League at Jubilee Park last Saturday.
In gusty wind and rain Headley seemed to cope better with the conditions than Henley, who found it difficult to settle and get any foothold in the game in the early exchanges.
The visitors, who had a clear aerial advantage, made it count for the first goal midway through the first half. Persistent wing play led to a cross and firmly met header with little pressure in defence from Henley. The hosts battled on to half-time without creating too many clear cut chances to level up.
Henley started brightly in the second half forging an early effort on goal, but were foiled by some fine last ditch defending.
Headly were now using the wind to their advantage taking a fairly direct approach and indecisive defending led to the visitors’ second goal.
Henley clawed a goal back after the referee overruled a linesman offside flag for Ethan Pearce to slot home. The fighback was short lived with the Hotspurs adding a further two goals.
