SECOND-PLACED AFC Henley’s latest victory was more about sweat than substance at Jubilee Park last Sunday.
AFC Henley came out of the blocks quickly taking the lead after three minutes when leading scorer Costa Onisor broke down the right and crossed for midfielder Alex Brain to tap home.
The second arrived after
10 minutes when Onisor fed stand-in striker Ian Plumpton who finished well at the correct end of the field following two unfortunate own goals the week before.
Kingston began to gain a foothold in the game and goalkeeper Alan Draper twice saved at his near post to keep the visitors at bay.
The second half saw AFC Henley playing against a strong headwind which seemed to pick up as the match progressed.
Kingston made a game of it scoring from a 20 yard free kick after 60 minutes which the AFC Henley defence should have defended better.
The visitors were enjoying the lion’s share of possession with an out of sorts AFC Henley struggling to gain a foothold. Despite this, AFC Henley had the better chances with Simon Hearn having two efforts on goal scrambled away and Alex Brain having two good sights of goal to add to his first-half goal.
Despite the visitors dominating possession, AFC Henley were comfortable defending with the visitors unable to get goal-side and threaten Draper’s goal.
