Fosh nets late leveller as draw specialists share derby points

HENLEY TOWN and visitors GORING UNITED played out the fifth successive draw between the two sides during last Saturday’s Thames Valley Premier League Premier Division clash at The Triangle Ground.

Henley started the better of the two sides and created early chances with striker Tommy Fosh failing to convert with a one-on-one with Goring goalkeeper Will May.

Henley opened the scoring when Fosh managed to thread a ball through on 20 minutes for Harry Taylor to calmly side foot past May.

Goring applied pressure after the goal and while having the better of possession it was Town who had the better chances with Fosh missing good chances failing to hit the target twice without troubling May.

The home side were made to pay after 30 minutes when a free kick into the penalty area found Harry Voice who stretched to flick home past Ben Palmer to level the scores going into half time.

It was the visitors that came out for the second half looking brighter and they took the lead on 50 minutes when a long ball into the Henley half caused confusion between Palmer and centre backs Aiden Cameron and Ethan Pearce, leaving Thomas Wibberly to pass into an empty net.

Town brought on wide player Luke Adams for his debut and his work soon started to pay off coming close twice with shots that went narrowly wide.

With Palmer being largely untroubled for the rest of the game Henley continued to press and were guilty of failing to hit the target on numerous occasions before Fosh equalised on 75 minutes when he cut in from the right flank and neatly placed a left foot shot low into the far corner.

Further chances came for the home side from skipper James Griffiths and Jacob Tait-Toussant both coming close.

In Division 1, ROTHERFIELD UNITED picked up a point from their 1-1 draw at league leaders COOKHAM DEAN. Harry Green and Luke Mullin were on target for the visitors.

In Division 2, basement side HENLEY EXILES went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to MAIDENHEAD TOWN DEVELOPMENT.

The home side started quickly and took the lead after five minutes when a mazy run by Sam Redding drew a foul to win a free kick which was fired home by Michael Whorrell into the top corner.

Henley continued to create chances but were unable to convert. Then, against the run of play, Maidenhead won a penalty which they converted to level the scores.

Henley then lost concentration and conceded a second goal before half-time.

In the second half Henley continued to play well but were unable to convert their chances.

In Division 3, GORING UNITED RESERVES crashed to a heavy 11-2 defeat at FINCHAMPSTEAD RESERVES.

WARGRAVE progressed to the next round of the Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup after running out 2-1 winners at MAIDENHEAD TOWN. Bradley Hoy and Sam Wild were on target for the visitors.
