A CARE home in Goring has been recognised as one of the top 100 in the UK.
The Grange, which has a Care Quality Commission rating of “Good”, was named in the inaugural Lottie Awards.
It was also named as one of the top 10 care homes in the country for outdoor space.
Gardener Battista Pettinato, who moved from Italy in his 20s, planted his first rose at the home in 1965.
He said: “The garden has always been my canvas but the real award is seeing residents discover something new in it every day. Whether that’s fresh bloom, a cheeky robin or just a peaceful corner in the sun.”
Dianne Downard, register manager, described Battista as “part of the building”.
She said: “He moved from Italy in his early 20s and is basically part of the building. He takes such pride in his work and deserves the mention for his hard work.”
Ms Downard added: “It’s nice to know that care homes are recognised because it’s a very tough industry to work in.”
Hannah Karim, an awards judge, said: “The Grange is a peaceful care home set in more than 10 acres of beautiful land beside the River Thames.
“Spacious rooms with large windows create a bright, airy feel. With multiple lounges, a hair salon, and a sunny terrace, residents enjoy a relaxing, nature-filled environment and vibrant community activities.”
