Warning to stop park damage

CHILDREN have been warned against digging holes and making ramps in Bourdillon Field in Goring.

A makeshift dirt bike track has been made next to the new playground.

Goring Parish Council, which owns the land, has filled in the holes and spread grass seed.

The authority has warned that any ramps and equipment left on the field will be removed.

Sarah Edmunds, clerk to the council, said: “We know children want to have fun and we recognise we need more facilities for older children but this kind of activity is criminal damage and cannot be allowed.

“Ramps and holes create a potential hazard for others using the field, especially in poor light.”

The council has asked residents to be patient while it works on plans for spaces for older children.

Ms Edmunds said: “We know how important it is for older children and teenagers to have spaces of their own.

“We understand the frustration that this has been talked about for many years without progress.

“The council is actively exploring options for a pump track but a new facility must be created safely, responsibly and with local support.”

Geraldine Poole, who has lived in Goring for more than 25 years, has been petitioning for a skate park since 2019.

An online petition she created has received more than 600 signatures.
