UP to £20,000 has been approved for the surfacing of the right of way between Ferry Lane and the Thames Path in Goring.

By reinstating the byway as the main path, since the walked route can become muddy, the resurfaced path would provide a wheelchair-accessible route from Ferry Lane to the river.

It would also improve its connection to the Thames Path, providing a circular route from the Wheel Orchard car park, along the river to the bridge and back to the car park via the High Street.

A new permanent, hard surfaced path will be laid with a suitable porous foundation, such as KBI Flexipave, to withstand the effects of flooding which the site is liable to.

The work would need to satisfy South Oxfordshire District Council’s tree officer as there are trees on the boundary of the open space which are subject to tree preservation orders.

Two contractors estimated that the job would cost from £8,000 to £12,000. However, travel and transport committee at the parish council considered other conditional costs of connecting with the Thames Path and protecting tree roots.
