PLANS have been submitted to repair part of the roof at an historic pub in Henley.
J D Wetherspoon, which owns the Catherine Wheel in Hart Street, wants to replace the existing felt roof to the plant area after it had deteriorated.
It will be replaced with a new felt roof while pitched roof tile repairs will also be made.
A report by RAM building consultancy found the existing clay tile weathering was in “poor condition”, that multiple tiles were cracked or missing and that there is water damage to the roof timbers.
The chain has also applied for permission to replace the pub’s hotel bedroom entrance doors to improve the building’s fire safety.
Theo Cook, assistant heritage officer at the district council, said as the doors are modern they would have a “neutral impact” on the building’s historic significance.
The district council will make a final decision on both applications by January.
Meanwhile, “various roads” in Harpsden Bottom are to be resurfaced from January 5.
Drainage works will be carried out at the same time.
A diversion will be in place and alternative routes will be signed locally.
The work is expected to be completed by February 3.
