HENLEY 2nds signed off 2025 with a 5-2 win at EASTCOTE 2nds in their South Central Open Division 2 North clash last Saturday.

The visitors started brightly and were rewarded after 10 minutes when a pinpoint pass from Brandon Smith allowed captain Will Beaumont to deflect home for a 1-0 lead.

Henley carried that advantage into half-time, but not without a stern test. Henley increased their lead before Eastcote had a sustained spell of attacks, eventually finding a goal that reduced the deficit to 2-1.

The second half initially followed a similar pattern, with Eastcote pushing hard, but Henley showed maturity and control to wrestle the game back in their favour. Henley were ruthless in front of goal, adding three further strikes while the visitors netted once more.

HENLEY 4ths lost out of the Cherwell Cup after losing 3-0 at MARLOW. This followed a defeat to a strengthened Oxford side in the previous round.

Marlow set the tempo early, moving the ball quickly and applying sustained pressure. Henley found themselves under strain through the middle of the pitch, where Marlow broke forward with pace and purpose. While the defensive trio of Austin, Woolfrey and Proudfoot worked tirelessly to repel repeated attacks, the pressure eventually told as Marlow took the lead.

Henley did enjoy spells of possession, with Measures directing play effectively — particularly down the right — and Baker’s accurate distribution helping to release the front three.

Despite entering the Marlow D on several occasions, Henley were unable to test the home goalkeeper. Two further goals from Marlow underlined the difference between the sides on the day.
