Critically acclaimed duo bring new sound to classic British songs

British pop music will take centre stage in a new live show at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts on Saturday, July 5.

The Great British Songbook brings together critically acclaimed Italian vocalist Irene Serra and guitarist Luca Boscagin to celebrate some of the most iconic British songs of the past 70 years.

The performance marks the launch of their new album of the same name, featuring original arrangements of music by artists such as The Beatles, Sting, Massive Attack and Imogen Heap.

Serra is known for her versatility across genres including jazz, blues, Brazilian music and original compositions. She began studying jazz at 16 under the mentorship of Tiziana Ghiglioni and later moved to London to continue her training.

Her voice has been described as thoughtful and expressive, and she has performed with musicians including Wynton Marsalis and US3.

Boscagin, originally from Verona, grew up with a love for both jazz and rock. Since moving to London in 2009, he has built a reputation as a skilled and adaptable guitarist, working with acts such as Jason Rebello, Cinematic Orchestra and Jim Mullen. His playing is rooted in groove-driven improvisation, with a strong melodic focus.

Together, Serra and Boscagin bring a fresh approach to familiar material, blending elements of pop and rock with jazz-influenced arrangements and a laid-back, soulful energy.

The result is a reimagining of British pop that respects the original songs while offering something new and distinctive.

They will be joined by two established session musicians: Andy Hamill on bass, whose credits include Mark Murphy, Laura Mvula and Annie Lennox, and Fergus Gerrand on drums and percussion, who has played with artists such as Madonna, Mike Oldfield and Sting.

The Great British Songbook will show at Norden Farm on Saturday, July 5 at 8pm. Tickets are £17.50.
