THE organist who played at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton will join Henley Choral Society for their Christmas Fanfare! concert at St Mary’s Church on December 10.
James McVinnie was assistant organist of Westminster Abbey between 2008 and 2011 where he played and directed the Abbey’s world-famous choir. He also played at many state occasions and for live broadcasts.
When he played for the royal wedding his music was heard by more than two billion people worldwide.
Previously, he held organ scholarships at St Albans Cathedral and at Clare College Cambridge, where he studied music. James plays across the world in solo recitals and will be a featured artist at the Southbank Centre in 2014 at the reopening of the Royal Festival Hall organ, where he will perform works by Bach.
Choral society chairman Melissa Maple said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have a musician of James’ calibre joining us for Christmas. This is what Henley Choral Society is all about — bringing great music to our local community.”
McVinnie will accompany the 100-strong chorus performing excerpts from Handel’s Messiah. Brass ensemble Chaconne Brass will also be playing and children from St Mary’s School Choir will also sing. The audience will be able to join in with favourite carols. Wine and mince pies will be served.
