INSTRUMENTS made out of hacksaws and saucepans give the Churchfitters their unique sound.

The threesome’s reportoire includes heartfelt vocals, fast fiddle mixed with funk-rock rhythms and jazz sax reinventing traditional tunes.

The musicians also include a flute, banjo, dulcimer, tin whistle, guitar, ukulele, electric hub-cap bass-bouzouki, saucepan double bass and a sackful of percussion in their set as well as their bing-bong machine made out of hacksaw blades.

Londoner Rosie Short sings a range of styles, from husky blues to femme folk, and also plays a variety of instruments. Rosie’s brother Chris is a fiddler and raconteur — useful when you play the musical saw!

Part bass player, part mad inventor, Boris Lebret from Lannion, France, hates to play a regular instrument when he can cobble together a better one out of scrap metal.

Like when he discovered four strings weren’t enough for his driving bass rhythms, so he simply reached for the Black & Decker and bolted on another two.

The trio will perform at the Nettlebed Folk Song Club on Monday. Box office 01628 636620 or online at www.nettlebedfolk club.co.uk
