LOCAL musician Chris Cawte and his son Tom are members of The Gutter Brothers, who from humble beginnings of busking in Covent Garden have achieved cult status.
The band play the Crooked Billet in Stoke Row on Tuesday (June 9) to promote the release of their new double album, Mother Primeval.
The all-new studio recording features 15 songs, performed with what the band describe as “an aggressive intent to bring these intimate stories to life”.
When Dr Feelgood heard the Gutter Brothers perform their song Lying About The Blues they were so impressed that they recorded a version of it on their last album with Lee Brilleaux.
Happily for their fans, the Gutter Brothers have now recorded this song for the first time on Mother Primeval.
The Gutter Brothers have been developing their unique brand of popular music since they formed as a street band in London in 1985.
The next decade took them from the cobbles of Covent Garden to appearances at the Reading Festival. The Gutter Brothers were also notable for becoming the first band to perform live on MTV Europe.
Bringing the new album to life on stage are the original line-up of Tony Green, Chris Cawte, Steve Turner and Jeff Walker, joined by multi-instrumentalist Tom Cawte.
