ST MARY’S Henley is the venue for Midsummer Music — a concert showcasing the talents of some of the town’s top musicians.
Henley Choral Society, the senior section of Henley Youth Choir, plus Henley-based pianist Anita D’Attellis and the Henley Choral Society’s regular accompanist David Smith are among those who will be performing at the venue on Saturday, June 20, starting at 7.30pm.
Henley Choral Society chair Susan Edwards said: “Picture the scene — it’s been a wonderful summer’s day in Henley and then, in the cool of the evening, you can wander into a local venue with great acoustics and relax with a wonderfully varied programme including
Songs and Sonnets by George Shearing,
Liebeslieder by Brahms, and moving unaccompanied
Spirituals by Sir Michael Kemp Tippett. With a glass of wine or soft drink in the interval it should be a lovely evening in Henley.”
A highlight of the programme will be the Mendelssohn piano duet
Andante and Allegro brillante op 92 performed by Anita d’Attellis and David Smith.
Anita read music at the University of Birmingham, winning the Arnold Goldsborough Prize as well as the Barber Scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music. David completed a postgraduate diploma in piano accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music and won a Shinn Fellowship.
Susan added: “As they are the accompanists for Henley Choral Society and the Youth Choirs, we are lucky enough to get a glimpse of Anita and David’s talent every week, but we are so looking forward to having them both play in concert on June 20. The chance to hear them together in a work for four-hand piano is a treat for all Henley music lovers.”
