SOUL singer Ruby Turner has been added to the line-up of this year’s Gap Festival in Goring.
The arts extravaganza will take place across dozens of venues in the village from Wednesday to Sunday, June 15 to 19 and will include music, arts and crafts, dance, theatre and literary events.
Turner, who has recently finished touring with Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, will be the main musical attraction and will perform in a 500-seater festival marquee on Gardiner recreation ground on the Saturday night.
Other musicians performing at the festival include Irish folk singer Cara Dillon, soprano Alison Rose and Goring rock band the Lightyears.
Meanwhile, broadcaster and former Conservative MP Gyles Brandreth has agreed to be a festival patron.
Brandreth, who is famed for his appearances on BBC1’s The One Show and Radio 4’s Just A Minute, is president of the Oscar Wilde Society and Wilde wrote An Ideal Husband while staying in Goring in 1893.
He said: “The festival team has put together a wonderful programme filled with so much to delight, entertain and educate. Sadly, I can’t be there this year because I am touring but I shall be cheering and tweeting my support.”
The line-up also includes former Times editor Sir Peter Stothard, Peep Show star and comedian Isy Suttie, poets Luke Wright and Giles Andreae and historian Lucy Worsley.
