War theme for concert

War theme for concert
AWARD-WINNING pianist Jianing Kong will join St John’s Chamber Orchestra to perform in Maidenhead.

Jianing returns to Norden Farm for an afternoon concert on Sunday at 2.30pm.

St John’s Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Nigel Wilkinson. Their programme opens with Butterworth’s The Banks of Green Willow, which was written in 1913, just before the outbreak of the First World War, a century ago this year. The war later claimed Butterworth’s life, where he was killed in the Battle of the Somme.

This is followed by Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.22, which was the composer’s first piece to include a clarinet, and considered one of his most grand pieces of work. Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 closes the concert, in energetic and celebratory fashion.
