Bluebirds shot down as second placed Hawks soar in push for promotion

HENLEY HAWKS 5ths delivered a commanding performance as they defeated BLUEBIRDS 43-14 in their Division 3 Maidenhead and District Netball League clash last week.

The Hawks were sharp from the first centre pass as they piled on early pressure. Clinical movement through the court and good finishing in the shooting circle saw Hawks surge to a five-goal lead by the end of the first quarter.

The momentum only grew in the second quarter as the Hawks converted chances in quick succession and stretched the defence with slick, flowing play. By half-time, the Hawks had built an impressive 14-goal advantage. Bluebirds struggled to contain a Hawks side playing with confidence and cohesion after the break as Henley controlled the tempo and dominated possession to see out the win by 29 goals. The win maintains Henley’s second place position in the league. HENLEY HAWKS 4ths moved up to third place in Division 4 after beating PINK FLAMINGOS MAGIC 30-16.

The first quarter was a physical, closely fought contest, with neither side giving an inch as Magic edged ahead by a single goal.

The Hawks’ patience paid off in the second quarter as they increased the pressure in the attacking circle and began to force errors, turning possession into goals and swinging the momentum firmly in their favour. By half-time, the Hawks had worked their way into a five-goal lead.

After the break, Hawks tightened up defensively and raised the intensity across the court, extending their advantage to eight goals by the end of the third quarter.

Although Magic rallied late to secure the bonus point, Hawks held their nerve and closed out the game to win by 14 goals.
