Work to build a new multi-use hall at The Piggott School in Wargrave is well underway.
The expansion is part of a phased initiative to allow an additional 230 students, with improved sixth-form facilities at the secondary school in Wargrave Road.
The new building features a main hall and a dining area as well as a dedicated working space and staff office.
The shell and roof of the new hall are already built, the building is now watertight and internal work has started.
The contractors for the project are Wokingham-based company Contract Trading Services Ltd.
The hall is the last part of the project which has spanned three phases, which have included alterations to the science department and a lab extension, completed in October 2024.
Four flood-lit all-weather courts for tennis and netball were completed in the spring.
The multi-purpose hall is expected to be finished by December this year.
Cllr Prue Bray, Wokingham Borough Coun-cil’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “The new main hall and dining area will provide more secondary places across the borough.
“We want to ensure each child in our borough has access to education by providing fair opportunities for everyone which is why the council continues to invest in school facilities.”
Derren Gray, chief executive for Agape Multi-Academy Trust, which runs the school, said: “The Piggott School continues its commitment to working with the local authority to meet the local community’s need for places at the school in current and future years, and welcomes this investment in the school estate.”
