Double delight as Oratory secure national titles

STUDENTS from Woodcote’s Oratory School have won two national real tennis competitions last month.

St Philip House pupils Fernando Álvarez-Rendueles and Noah Dupre won the U13 national schools doubles title with a 6-3 victory against Moulsford Prep School in the final.

Meanwhile Archie Watson, having previously won the French open at U17 and U19 level, and making it through to the British open U18 final in the summer, was
victorious in the U18 national schools championship at Hardwick House in Goring Heath.

Playing against the best juniors from around the country, Watson beat Lazlo Garson from Radley College 6-5, 6-5 in the final.

Henry Connolly and Henry Baker also made a semi-final in the U16 doubles, and Fred Bennett, Theo Ross, Ben Bradley and Louis Savage made the U15 semi-finals.

Speaking after the success, head of Oratory racquets and the reigning ladies’ world champion, Claire Fahey, said: “This has been a very special week for real tennis at The Oratory.

“It has been wonderful to see the progress throughout the different age groups and to win two national competitions in a week is testament to all the pupils currently playing real tennis in the school.”
