HENLEY Rowing Club’s junior girls game away from last Saturday’s Hampton Head with five wins following a good performance from the whole squad.
Hampton is one of the largest junior head races with nearly 600 crews racing across the two divisions and attracts most of the top junior crews in the southeast.
In the top event for girls the eight octuple of Emma Eltze, Nicolette Pagdin, Freya Smith, Daisy Janes, Chloe Hughes, Emily Simmons, Lillian Graham, Freya Weiser amd cox Annie Young had a seven second win against second placed Lady Eleanor Holles School with Kingston Grammar School third.
In the event for second eights, Evie Meeks, Jess Mack, Fran Reeves, Sophia Spanswick, Gwennie Hunter, Sophie Eltze, Lilya Wild, Abi Smith and cox Ella Dickson also had victory against Lady Eleanor Holles School but with the bigger margin of nine second. Surbiton finished in third place. In junior girls coxless fours, Lilya Wild, Sophie Eltze, Gwennie Hunter and Abi Smith had a convincing victory of 21 seconds against Lady Eleanor Holles, whose home water the race is run on.
The J16 coxless four of Lillian Graham, Chloe Hughes, Jemima Painter and Evi Meeks had to settle for second place, finishing a second behind Lady Eleanor Holles Boat Club.
In the girls J16 double sculls, Molly Hall and Jemima Butterworth had a five second victory over AB Severn RC in a large field of 29 boats. In the junior girls pairs, Emma Eltze and Emily Simmonds finished in second place behind Surbiton School by just 0.5 of a second.
The girls’ J15 coxed four of Agnes Chapman, Scarlett Sissons, Grace Haldane, Daisy Millard and cox Petra Frank had a convincing 16 second win against Barn Elms Boat and finished in a time faster than the age category above.
