Henley’s junior crews pick up wins at Wallingford Long Distance Sculls

HENLEY Rowing Club’s juniors gained success at last weekend’s Wallingford Long Distance Sculls over the 4,000m course.

Henley boys’ squad entered a range of events over the three divisions. Henley’s J16 quadruple sculls boat of Diego Petrosillo, Flynn Burrow, Oliver Rowley and Miles Vann started first in Division 3 and struck a good powerful rhythm enabling them to pull away from the chasing field. The winning margin of three seconds over the Lea would have been greater, but for a late brush with some bushes. Earlier in the day, three scullers from the J16 quad had raced the same course in J16 single sculls, together with fellow squad member Samuel Byerley. In a large field of 38 J16 scullers, Henley showed the strength of its year group by taking places three to six — Diego Petrosillo third, Flynn Burrow fourth, Oliver
Rowley fifth and Samuel Byerley sixth.

The Henley girls’ squad also had success with the quad of Evie Meeks, Issy Hughes, Lillian Graham and Molly Hall winning the WJ18 category and being fastest girls’/women’s boat in Division 1 finishing 15 seconds ahead of second placed Lady Eleanor Holles School.

In Division 3 the younger J16 double scull of Polina Bezuhlyi and Camilla Barlow comfortably won their double sculls category, finishing nearly a minute ahead of second place Reading RC.
