Upper Thames masters shine at city regatta

UPPER THAMES had five crews racing on Saturday over the 1,000m course at the City of Oxford Royal Regatta.

The highlight was victory in the masters G quadruple sculls where Steve Dance, John Wilson, Lee Brown and Andy Ciecierski claimed the win. In the open coxed fours, the crew of James Sanmogan, Connor Metcalf, Joe Spratley and Tom Jewell, coxed by Alex Sneader, finished runners-up to Marlow Rowing Club.

Sunday’s racing was held on the 500m course and also featured “super sprints” in mixed eights.

Upper Thames entered six crews, including a mixed eight in the special 350m sprint. The same masters G quad crew of Dance, Wilson, Brown and Ciecierski secured another victory — over Bentham Boat Club — bringing home two medals across the weekend.

In addition, James Powell from the senior men’s squad won the open single sculls (band 1), rounding off a successful regatta for the club.
