Third place Wimbledon finish for Viney

A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD boy from Tokers Green played at Wimbledon earlier this month.

Jacob Viney secured his place at the prestigious venue by first winning the club-level round at Goring Tennis Club and then winning the final at the Oxfordshire county stage. His success saw him qualify for the Vodafone Play Your Way to Wimbledon U14 national finals.

Heavy rain during the event meant Viney got to play indoors.

Despite narrowly missing out on the final knockout stages after finishing third in his qualifying group following some close matches, Viney was thrilled with his achievement.

Speaking after the event he said: “I was so happy to get so far in the tournament and reach the national finals. I never knew that Wimbledon had an indoor tennis centre.”
