MR and Mrs Clarice S Ramsay, of Fawley Court, were charged at Marlow last week with failing to register under the Aliens’ Registration Order. Insp W West said the defendants came to the police station to register and when he asked them why they had not registered before they said they were Americans and did not think they had to do so. They had received no notice to register but decided to do so as soon as they knew it was necessary. The bench dismissed the case.
Pte Edward Wilkins, of the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, formerly in the employ of Mr Lee at Henley Post Office Stores, has died as a result of wounds sustained in action in France. Pte Wilkins, who was engaged to be married to the third daughter of Mr W H Sheppherd, of Hamilton Avenue, was a member of the Wesleyan Church and a Sunday school teacher. He joined the army in June last year and had been at the front for about a year.
News has been received by Mr W Dean, of Hambleden, that his son, Pte Frank Dean, of the Royal Warricks, is a prisoner of war at Nurnberg, Bavaria. The news came by means of a postcard from the soldier himself to his parents.
