PEDESTRIAN-only access may be introduced at the Victoria Road entrance to the allotments in Wargrave.

It comes after a resident raised concerns that drivers parking across the dropped kerb in front of the gates were being issued with fixed penalty notices which were then appealed.

They contacted the parish council to seek written permission to park outside the gate from “time to time” but parish councillors turned the requests down.

A spokesman said: “The suggestion is impractical as only a highways authority can grant permissions for parking on the highway.

“It is suggested that this council adopts the policy that the Victoria Road entrance to the allotments is a pedestrian route only [for authorised users] and is no longer utilised for regular motorised vehicle access.

“Furthermore, the signage on the gate [must] be amended to reflect this to help highlight this at the location. This effectively regularises the operational usage that has been in place for several decades.”
