OPPOSING Henley town councillors Ian Reissmann and Will Hamilton often poke fun at each other during meetings and each tries to have the last word.

The latest spat came during a debate about how Henley should mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Cllr Hamilton, a Conservative, wanted the council to buy a commemorative coin for each of the town’s 1,163 primary school children at a cost of £2,035.35.

“I still have my silver jubilee mug from 1977,” he said. “Henley is a royal town and we should celebrate this.”

Cllr Reissmann, a member of Henley Residents’ Group, replied: “I don’t see the point of the coins particularly. Buying one for everyone on the basis that everyone would want one sounds a bit socialist, Will!”
