THE depth of PEPPARD STOKE ROW’S batting line-up came to their rescue as the Premier Division leaders beat WELFORD PARK by 177 runs on Saturday.
The hosts suffered a disastrous start as they crashed to 51-4 after being asked to bat on a good track at Peppard Common, but Dan Hayden and Senthil Muniyasamy began to right the early aberrations with a flamboyant fifth-wicket stand.
When that pair departed and the hosts were 145-6, Welford were on top, but a stunning counter-attack by Ashley Hayden and Matt Hopper – who struck some mighty blows in his 43 from 36 – again turned the game on its head. With Michael Chard adding a spritely unbeaten 26, Peppard Stoke Row declared on 301-8 after 43 overs.
David Williams showcased good pace in picking up three early wickets to reduce the visitors to 43-3, but the in-form Will Herrington moved past 50.
The introduction of Dion Sampson, allied to a fine spell by Hopper, led to a dramatic collapse from Welford.
At 95-3 they appeared to be in the game, but they slumped to 124 all out as Sampson and Hopper ran riot, aided by a fine display of glovemanship by Chard who took four catches and conceded no byes.

WOODCOTE drew their match at RUISLIP VICTORIA.
The visitors set a good target for Ruislip to chase after being invited to bat first in a match that saw Micky Molloy play the anchor role to hold the innings together as top scorer.
Some lusty blows by James Worsfold in the later stages brought him a half-century and Woodcote were confident at tea of recording their first win for more than a month.
However, an unbeaten century by Yakub Vora kept his team in the hunt and closing-in on a victory until Woodcote’s captain Ryan van Heerden came on as third change bowler to bowl 12 overs and return figures of 5-54 to put the brake on the home batsmen.
At the end of 90 overs, Ruislip were nine runs short of victory with two wickets in hand.

CHECKENDON secured a comprehensive home victory in Division 1 against local rivals GORING thanks to consistent batting and penetrative bowling.
Inform wicket-keeper batsman Ujwal Tickoo top scored with 72 but all the home players contributed to an imposing total of 258-7 on an easy paced pitch despite accurate bowling from Peter Slade and Andy Benning.
Goring openers George Taylor and Steve Wincott put on 41 in just seven overs but once Checkendon opening bowlers Rajesh Tiwari and Tony Breakspear found the right area to put the ball the visiting team collapsed in spectaular fashion losing all 10 wickets for the addition of just 24 runs.
Swing bowler Ash Ralreja showed the virtue of attacking the stumps by clean bowling all four of his victims at a cost of five runs as Goring were dismissed for 65 in 21.3 overs.

PEPPARD STOKE ROW 2nds lost out in their Division 2 top-of-the-table clash at FARLEY HILL.
Stand-in captain Simon Gozzard lost the toss and Farley Hill elected to bat on what appeared to be a good wicket. Sam Fooks opened the bowling and once again bowled without luck, beating the bat on numerous occasions.
After two overs by U15 player Alfie Burnett, an early bowling change was made and Roy Hayden was brought on. This precipitated a Farley Hill batting collapse as Hayden produced a fine display of seam bowling, moving the ball both ways to remove the top six Farley Hill batsmen and finishing with match figures of 6-30 off 11 overs.
Wickets continued to fall, with in-form spinner Olly Nicholson picking up two late wickets and Ian Jackson also chipping-in with a wicket to leave Farley Hill reeling on 111-9. A last wicket stand that was well-marshalled by the Farley Hill number seven batsman Gregory Coney saw Farley Hill finish on 126-9 off 45 overs.
The Peppard Stoke Row reply did not begin well, with Peter Shaw removing both openers cheaply and finishing with match figures of 3-16 off 12 overs.
When Simon Gozzard was dismissed first ball playing back to a full straight delivery Peppard Stoke Row were 23-4. Chris Proudfoot steadied the innings with six runs off 49 balls but it took some clean striking by Nicholson at number eight to give the innings some much needed momentum.
With two huge sixes, including one off his first ball faced and three other well-struck boundaries, victory looked a possibility. However when he was dismissed for 30 off 21 balls by Nick Timms, who also accounted for two other lower order wickets, Peppard Stoke Row were 77-9 with 50 runs required for victory.
Hayden and Ian Jackson then staged a 45-run last wicket partnership, displaying the necessary batting skills that had escaped the Peppard Stoke Row top order.
A sharp chance was missed in the slips and the visitors appeared to be heading for an unlikely win but, when pushing for a second run, a fine throw under pressure from Nick Timms ran out Hayden who was just short of his ground and the visitors fell just three runs short of victory.

Hugh Asquith returned to form in spectacular style as Division 4 table-toppers PEPPARD STOKE ROW 3rds had the better of a draw against BINFIELD 3rds.
The opening batsman scored 101 and with Pradeep Kumar and U15 Nick Evans also among the runs, the leaders were able to post a competitive 226-4.
All-rounder Evans made an early breakthrough in the Binfield reply as he bowled Simon York, but it was the left-arm spin of Taylor Vines which proved the greatest threat as his 10-over spell returned figures of 6-24.
Mick Chard was his usual economical self and Rob Dyer and U15 Josh Smith also bowled well, but it was James Hern who had the visitors’ hope of victory with two wicket in his two overs. However, some stubborn resistance allowed Binfield to escape with a draw as they closed on 150-9.
