ON Tuesday evening, 16 members of the Henley Brigade, together with a squad of special constables, assembled for drill. The steamer and motor tractor were turned out and the whole made a trip to Fair Mile. Just beyond Farr Lodge a halt was made and the steamer got to work from the Assendon Spring, which is now running in full volume.
Mr and Mrs Jonas Green, of Stoke Row Wood, have received information from the Admiralty of the sad loss of their son George, who was a stoker on HMS Hampshire, which foundered off the Orkneys on June 5 when conveying Lord Kitchener and his staff to Russia. The sad news of the loss of their gallant son, who was well-known and much liked, has brought the tragedy home to all who knew him. He was an old pupil of Highmoor School and was an exceptionally bright and intelligent lad.
On June 14 the Bix annual rummage sale was held in the garden at Nettlebed House and best thanks are due to all the kind contributors and sellers who worked with such zeal and also the buyers. There were not so many purchasers as in former years and neither was there as much displayed for sale. There was particularly a lack of blouses with only 36 sent compared with 150 to 200 previously.
