AN appeal to raise money to equip the new doctors’ surgeries in Henley is launched today. The Henley New Surgery Medical Fund has been set up as a result of patients wanting to be involved in the scheme to extend the premises next to Townlands Hospital. The 10 doctors at the two practices are spending £850,000 to redevelop their current site.
Residents will have a chance to air their views on Henley’s controversial town centre parking scheme at a meeting on October 23. Mayor Ken Arlett says it will be people’s last opportunity to give their opinions before the town council puts its case to Oxfordshire County Council. It is proposed that residents in a concentrated zone around the town centre should pay a fee of £100 a year to park there. Non-residents would be able to park for up of two hours for a fee of 50p.
Phyllis Court Club’s proposal to roof and glaze its riverside grandstand has provoked a strong reaction among district councillors. Views at the southern area planning sub-committee were divided over whether the scheme to encase the ground and upper floors of the Grade II listed building in glass to provide function rooms was to be applauded or rejected.
