CARERS refused to help a 99-year-old great grandmother climb her stairs — in case she fell and hurt them! Edna East, who lives with her daughter Suzanne Singer in Peppard Road, Sonning Common, was told new health and safety regulations meant she would have to use a stairlift. Mrs Singer, a chiropodist, called it “health and safety gone mad” and another example of the lack of care for the elderly.
Thousands of new homes have to be built in South Oxfordshire by 2026 — and hundreds of them could be in Henley. The draft plan for South-East England tells the district council that 10,200 homes are needed. It has launched a consultation which includes a list of sites suggested for development, such as Gillotts School, Townlands Hospital and Highlands Farm in Henley.
Seven-year-old James Bonner has handed two months worth of pocket money to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance as a thank-you for saving his mother when she suffered heart problems. James, of Churchfield, Nuffield, gave £32 and for each £1 the charity gave him a small cuddly toy.
