Forty-minute delays continue after crash on the M4 near Slough

Traffic on the M4 has been badly disrupted this afternoon following a crash - with long delays, a closure, and a diversion in place.

Congestion is affecting the M4 eastbound between junctions 6 and 5, where traffic conditions are currently active and delays of around 40 minutes are being reported.

National Highways says normal traffic conditions are expected to return between 4.30pm and 4.45pm today (December 18).

The situation is more severe on the London-bound carriageway at junction 5, where the road has been closed due to recovery work following an earlier crash. Severe delays and heavy congestion have built up as a result.

The closure is affecting the M4 London bound at J5, near the A4 London Road in Langley, with congestion stretching back to J6 in Slough. A detour is in operation via the roundabout.

The incident has been ongoing since around 1.40pm, although trapped traffic has now been released past the scene.

Further eastbound delays are also being reported between J7 (Slough West) and J4B, the M25 junction 15. Drivers are facing severe delays of up to 34 minutes, with delays continuing to increase.

Average speeds on this stretch have dropped to around five miles per hour, adding to the disruption across a wide section of the motorway.
