Guild exhibition at university with workshops open to all

READING Guild of Artists’ 94th annual exhibition is now running in the Institute of Education at the University of Reading’s London Road Campus.

The opening night was attended by the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Alice Mpofu-Coles and a large gathering of visitors.

Following a welcome by Dr Sarah Marston, head of the institute, Dr Hannah Lyons (curator of the university art collections) highlighted the historic connections between the guild and the university, and the importance of forging community connections.

Prizes and commendations were then given out.

Around 100 members of the guild are showcasing a huge selection of nearly 400 paintings, prints, sculptures, collages and ceramics and the majority of works are for sale.

Artists from the area include Shelagh Casebourne, Sally Castle, Kate Ellison-Bourne, Ashwani Verma and Kerry Webb.

The guild is also offering a series of workshops, open to the public. These cover drawing, painting, collage and print-making, and will be led by expert artists. The exhibition is open from 10am to 4pm daily until Tuesday, June 29.

Visitors will be warmly welcomed by members of the guild at LO4 Art Building in the Institute of Education at the London Road Campus, University of Reading, RG1 5AG (what3words: ///status.flames.marker).
