IN July we reported that Pangbourne Rotary Club’s Saerah Hopley had been awarded £5,000 by her employers, Reading Scientific Services, for her charitable work for Pangbourne Rotary Club.

Saerah then decided to donate her award to the Rotary Foundation’s Polio Plus scheme.

An additional £1,700 was added by the club’s own charitable trust and then this total was increased by 200 per cent by the Gates Foundation, making a whopping total of £20,100 to help eliminate polio globally — a fantastic contribution.

President Brian Davies said: “This donation confirms Pangbourne Rotary as one of the nation’s leading contributors to this cause, adding to the £120,000 donated from Richard Anderson’s public speaking fees over the past seven years — an achievement which we are truly proud.”

Saerah had been nominated for a Cadbury Foundation Purple Heart Award by her line manager Mai.

This was for her services to charity, namely Pangbourne Rotary Club. Saerah, who served as president of the club in 2022/23, was delighted to learn that she was one of
14 National winners.

Saerah, accompanied by then President James Richardson, attended the awards ceremony and a lunch on Thursday, June 19 at Cadbury’s headquarters in Bournville.

The venue was awash with Cadbury products — much to James’s delight, as he returned home with loads for his two young children.

Ironically, Saerah is allergic to chocolate.

All members of Pangbourne Rotary Club congratulate Saerah on her achievement.
