WE were privileged to give a presentation to the residents of Manor Care Home in Mill Lane, Henley, on September 30. This covered the society’s history and purpose, which was very well received.
The society’s Christmas lunch will take place on Thursday, December 18 at Henley Rugby Club at 12.30pm for 1pm.
A starter of smoked salmon mousse will be followed by traditional Christmas fare and then mince pies and coffee/ tea, all for a price of £32 per person.
Tickets, restricted to 50, are now on sale and are available by paying the ticket price directly into our bank account and will be issued on a first-come, first served basis.
Henley will mark Remembrance Sunday on November 9 in front of the town hall. Again, the society will be laying a wreath in memory of the fallen. This year it will be placed by our committee member, Joan Clark.
Our second talk of this autumn takes place on Thursday, November 13 at the Eyot Centre, off Wargrave Road.
The speaker is Richard Pinches and the subject “Henley in the Civil War”. There are still places available and we look forward to seeing you there.
Our recent speaker, Matthew Barber, the police and crime commissioner for the Thames Valley, is asking residents to complete his latest local crime survey.
This anonymous survey is your opportunity to share your experiences and have a say in how policing services are shaped in the Thames Valley.
The information you provide will help inform his office of any gaps, or improvements that could be made in the future. For more information and to complete a copy of the survey, visit www.thamesvalley-pcc.gov.uk/get-involved/survey/
We also announce with great sadness the passing of David Whitehead. David was a long-serving member of our executive committee and an even longer chairman of the society’s planning committee. His knowledge of the local planning scene was encyclopaedic.
On behalf of the executive committee and members we have sent a letter of condolence to David’s widow, Angela, who you may know designed the society’s current logo.
This month we are pleased to welcome new members Peter and Shanie Henderson, Tina Drew, Amanda Gosby and Sylvia Temporal. Membership is now at 669.
