PEPPARD STOKE ROW 3rds played a friendly against BAMVILLE on Saturday after their match in the Berkshire League was cancelled as Falkland Development conceded the fixture.
Bowling first, Mick Chard senior took 4-26 for Peppard Stoke Row while U15 Tober Head and U13 Joseph Weakley both took two wickets as the visitors were dismissed for 222.
Peppard Stoke Row had a number of useful contributions throughout their run chase – Head completing a fine all-round display with 26, Mark Lambert matching that score and captain Dyer making an unbeaten 29 – but they lacked the one substantial innings which might have sealed a win, eventually falling to 175 all out.
The following day David Williams starred with bat and ball as PEPPARD STOKE ROW KITES picked up a ninth win in 10 Sunday games as they squeezed past BINFIELD by six runs.
Tim Vines removed Fergus Nutt for a duck before the hosts’ U19 duo of captain Max Baker-Smith and Jake Leach steadied the ship, with both recording half centuries.
Baker-Smith was bowled by Will Guest for 56, but Williams looked in good touch as he blasted his way to a rapid 45. Leach batted well in making 64 before running himself out, and Williams (45) was caught on the boundary when a six would have brought up his 50.
Gary Legg and U15 Ray Prince kept the momentum going as the Kites posted 217-5. Sean Ennis took 14 off James Hamand’s first over, but the bowler responded with a fine ball which the batsman feathered through to wicketkeeper Jake Leach.
Binfield collapsed to 65-6 in the face of good bowling by Ken Sullivan (2-14) and Josh Perkins (2-25).
From a tricky position Vines and Paul Edgington hauled their side back into the contest, with the latter eventually dismissed by the returning Williams. The pace bowler then knocked back Gary Smith’s off stump, but Vines kept going till the end, ultimately falling just short.
