SPRING was the coldest for 50 years, meaning the bluebells were late and some of my seeds were slow to germinate.

The average May temperature was more than one degree below the usual and there were four air frosts and seven ground frosts compared with one or two normally.

There was 58mm of rainfall in Shiplake and 66mm in Henley compared with the average of 50mm.

After last week’s sunny weather, perhaps we are in for a better June.

As usual, my thanks to Denis Gilbert, from Shiplake, for the statistics.
