SOME of the biggest cheers at the regatta were for the race announcers.

The commentary team had to contend with names of clubs from Germany, Holland, Poland and Norway which are long and difficult to pronounce.

One example was Wojskowy Klub Sportowy Zawisza and Regionalne Towarzystwo Wioslarskie Lotto, Poland, who reached the semi-final of the Grand.

Paul Baldwin, a member of the commentary team, said the secret of success was speaking to crews and coaches beforehand as well writing out the names phonetically and practising saying them.
