THE origin of the Great Fire of London is well-known but the four-part ITV drama series about it, which was filmed in Henley and broacast in October, had an interesting beginning.

About 25 tonnes of wood was used to build the set of The Great Fire, which told how the blaze destroyed 13,000 buildings in the capital in 1666.

The timber came from Schofield’s Reclamation in Swinton, South Yorkshire, and was delivered to Highlands Farm, off Greys Road, and then used to construct medieval-looking homes, shops and businesses.

Much of the wood had been reclaimed from an old whisky bond store in Edinburgh — very handy when most of it was destined to go up in smoke!
