IT’S good to see the chairman of AFC Henley taking an active role in the club, especially for those big derby games.

Dieter Hinke refereed Henley Hotspurs’ under–12s game against Wargrave Wolves at Jubilee Park on Saturday, which the hosts lost 1–2.

Mr Hinke, who is also a town councillor, says: “I stopped playing when I was in my late thirties but still wanted to be involved in the game.

“I got myself through the refereeing course and have been involved in the Reading Sunday League, Saturday League and other local leagues.

“Because I’m also welfare officer, I try to referee most of the teams so I can have a look at them.

“I’m quite a strict referee and they know they can’t mess about. I sometimes think it would be quite good if I could bring the yellow or red card into the council chamber and I could jump up with a caution or a sending off!”
