IT’S that time of year when birds are on their nests.

But when it comes to waterfowl, they don’t seem to mind where they do this. This swan has built a nest on a slipway at the bottom of New Street, Henley, and has been attracting a lot of interest from visitors with cameras.

Some thoughtful person — perhaps the town council — has cordoned off the area and added a warning sign to avoid the swan being disturbed. Perhaps that’s just as well as swans are notoriously protective of their young.

Meanwhile, John Downing, a former Fleet Street photographer who lives in Henley, took this picture of a coot on a nest on the back of a boat called

Angel’s Delight
moored at Phyllis Court.

“What will the owners do when they return?” he says.
