PAUL DANIELS’S love of telling jokes is almost as well-known as his dislike for tabloid journalists.

He would often put the world to rights on his blog or on social media when a hapless hack mercilessly twisted his words.

The Henley Standard has always had a good relationship with Paul and his wife Debbie McGee, publicising their shows and charity work.

But even our reporters have been on the receiving end of a jovial dig.

Some years ago, one of them was covering a visit by Paul to the drama studio at Chiltern Edge School in Sonning Common, where he spoke about his career and some of his magic tricks.

“You have to project your voice,” he said and then, glancing in our man’s direction, added: “You have to make sure everyone in the audience can hear you properly… especially journalists.”

Some years later, when the same reporter called Paul about a heart scare, he insisted his trip to hospital was “nothing to get uppity about”.

He then suggested that our man got a “proper” job — “like magic!”

Thanks for the laughs, Paul. We like you… a lot.
