AT least two people found a way to pass the time at the count for the joint Henley and Harpsden neighbourhood plan referendum.

Many hours can be spent verifying and totalling the number of votes at elections, so Blandy Road resident Jim Munro and town councillor Will Hamilton — both “yes” supporters — decided to wager a pint on the outcome.

Cllr Hamilton believed the result would show 73 per cent in favour of the plan and 27 per cent against while Mr Munro said the majority would be even higher.

In the event, the latter was right as 2,105 people voted “yes” and 471 “no”, meaning the majority was 81.7 per cent.

After winning the approval of the community following three-and-a-half years of work on the plan, I’m sure these two weren’t the only two people involved who enjoyed a drink!
