Opening day double for Crossley

GORING UNITED WOMEN pulled off a hard-fought win against last season’s league champions BURGHFIELD LADIES RESERVES to secure all three Division 3 West points.

Jenny Crossley opened the scoring after sustained pressure to put Goring 1-0 at half-time.

Burghfield equalised early in the second half, but substitute Charlotte Guppy restored the lead before Burghfield struck to make it 2-2.

With time running out, Guppy set up Crossley for her second goal, sealing a dramatic 3–2 victory with just one minute of the match remaining.

Elsewhere in the division, ROTHERFIELD UNITED WOMEN went down to a 2-0 home defeat against DIDCOT TOWN LADIES DEVELOPMENT.

Rotherfield started strong with early attacks from Heilbuth and Palmer keeping the pressure on the visitors. There was an early chance for Palmer as a cross through the box was just missed at the back post by Tominey. The visitors were strong on the counter-attack but balls forward were easily gathered by keeper Carpenter as the first half ended goalless.

Rotherfield made changes at half-time with newcomers Ward and Bray taking central positions. Didcot showed their form with an early chance saved by Carpenter and Rotherfield fought hard to win back possession but found it difficult to break in the second half.

Didcot found space near the edge of the box to send a ball through and open the scoring after 65 minutes.

The United defence worked hard to keep them at bay but Didcot increased the pressure. Rotherfield came close to equalising on 76 minutes with a lob that was kept out and a second shot on target from a corner.

In the dying minutes an attack from Didcot saw a few scrappy attempts before the ball ricocheted off Hall for an own goal.
