EMMER GREEN kicked off their Premier Division campaign in style with a dramatic 2-1 comeback win against SOUTHCOTE last Sunday, with the points sealed by an outrageous strike.
The visitors struck first, converting from the penalty spot after Emmer Green were penalised for a foul inside the box.
The home side hit back before the break, when Lewis Jenkins lashed a fine finish high into the roof of the net to level the scores. The second half saw Emmer Green grow stronger, and the decisive moment came in spectacular fashion. Luke Maze produced a moment of magic, acrobatically meeting a cross with an overhead kick that flew into the net sparking wild celebrations among the Emmer Green faithful.
Southcote pushed hard for a way back, but Emmer Green stood firm to secure all three points. In Division 1, GORING UNITED ran out 5-0 home winners against JAH LIONS. James Plumbridge’s 35-minute goal put the hosts 1-0 up at half-time. In the second half Jack Funnell, Zac Jones and a Sullivan Akers brace completed the scoreline.
In Division 5, HENLEY EXILES went down to a 3-1 home defeat against READING CAVALIERS.
Henley started the game well, passing the ball around confidently, but it was the visitors that scored the opener when they were awarded a penalty midway through the first half. Against the run of play the Cavaliers went 2-0 up when Henley failed to clear their lines.
The home team made a strong start to the second half and were creating chances. Henry McDonagh on the left-hand side put a good low cross into the box for Hugh Barklem to tuck away to reduce the arrears.
The Exiles were piling on the pressure to get the equaliser however it was all in vain as Cavaliers crossed a free kick into the box for their attacker to score a scrappy goal.
