WARGRAVE ran out 2-1 winners in their away Thames Valley Counties Women’s League Division 3 South clash at Finchampstead Reserves last Sunday.
The visitors started brightly with some good link-ups in the middle between Williams and Richardson. Wargrave took the lead on 15 minutes when a lay off from McDonagh set Whitmee up for a 20-yard shot, giving the Finchampstead keeper no chance.
Finchampstead put Wargrave under pressure and broke through Wargrave’s defensive line, but Harrington kept them at bay.
Another good build-up from Williams and Richardson saw Kirk getting involved setting up another fine strike from Whitmee outside the box to make it 2-0.
Finchampstead found their feet in the second half keeping Wargrave under pressure.
Harrington was forced into a stretching save to tip a shot over the bar, only for Finchampstead to catch everyone off-guard with a 25-yard shot to reduce the arrears.
An even last 15 minutes was end to end but Wargrave held on to secure all three points.
