Torreiro hits five as hosts blow Prestwood away

AFC HENLEY HURRICANES U15s surrendered the lead at home to CSA07 YOUTH WIZARDS U15s, losing 5-2 at Harpsden in their East Berks League clash last Saturday.

The early stages of the game were played at a lively tempo, with both teams forcing saves from their opponents. The Wizards’ keeper pulled off a double save, while the Hurricanes hit the post. It was slightly against the run of play when the Wizards took the lead.

They were only ahead for four minutes before the Hurricanes were back on level terms, Oscar Robinson’s header finding the back of the net from Rupert Hepburn’s cross.

The Hurricanes took the lead towards the end of the half. A fine tackle in midfield from Nicholas Hernandez St Clair to win the ball, and some solid passing allowed Robinson to stroke home for his second.

The Wizards started the second half brightly, propelled by the strong wind behind them. A well-taken strike took them quickly back to parity. The Hurricanes almost struck back immediately, although Robinson’s shot was just wide of the right-hand post. The Wizards further increased the pressure, forcing the Hurricanes to defend. They added a third goal to take the lead. By now the Wizards had the Hurricanes under their spell, growing in confidence to net two more goals, leaving the Hurricanes frustrated.

AFC HENLEY GIRLS U15s’ excellent start to the season continued with an 8-4 win at CAVERSHAM TRENTS GIRLS U15s with goals from Romy Draper (three), Ava Douglas (two), Izzy Coleman (two) and Sofia-Rose Gallagher. The result moved Henley up to third place in the Berkshire League U15 Division 3 table, just one point off top spot.

AFC HENLEY U14s ran out comfortable 10-2 winners against PRESTWOOD COLTS AND GIRLS U14s at Jubilee Park.

Prestwood took the lead, capitalising on a defensive error. Henley scored within five minutes when Hepburn played a perfectly timed through ball for Lovelock, who calmly slotted home into the bottom-left corner. Prestwood then took the lead again, but it only stirred Henley into action for the second half.

A moment of pressure forced a goalkeeping error, allowing Stamoulis to pounce and tap in from close range. Goals followed from Clayton and Withers. Then came the Torreiro show as the midfielder was unstoppable, scoring five goals in a display of pace, power and composure. His first was a driven finish into the corner, followed quickly by a smart strike direct from a short corner routine.

His hat-trick came after a surging run through the middle and a precise low finish, before a delightful dink over the keeper made it four. He saved one more for good measure — a thunderous effort after cutting in from the left. Henley’s slick build-up play continued to cause problems for Prestwood. A flowing move saw Lovelock find Jonah, whose clever pass put Dorata through to score with confidence, rounding off another fine team goal.

From front to back, it was a commanding display by Henley who kept their shape, played with energy and attacked with purpose. The scoreline reflected not just clinical finishing but also teamwork, determination and a great spirit across the squad.
