Breakaway goal proves decisive for visitors

EMMER GREEN went down to a 3-1 home defeat against GIVE BACK FC in their Premier Division clash last Sunday in a competitive, tight encounter.

Give Back took the lead when a corner wasn’t cleared and the second ball was smashed home.

Emmer Green responded immediately with a slick move down the left that saw Joe Harvey deliver the ball to Joe Rof who produced a stunning finish with his weaker left foot to level the score.

The game remained finely poised, but Give Back regained the advantage through a direct route-one move — the goalkeeper’s long ball found the centre forward, who made no mistake.

As Emmer Green pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Give Back capitalised on the space left behind, adding a third to seal the three points.

In the Oxfordshire Sam Waters Cup, GORING UNITED crashed out of the competition after going down 2-1 at BULLINGDON.

Meanwhile in the John Lusted Cup and Shield, HENLEY EXILES went down to a 3-2 defeat at home to AFC PANGBOURNE. Off of two wins on the bounce, the Exiles took the lead when Pangbourne failed to clear a through ball from Henry McDonagh that landed in the path of Tyree Street who placed it low into the corner.

Shortly after Street grabbed his second when he took advantage of some scrappy defending when Bailey Greathead caused chaos in the six-yard box to give Exiles a 2-0 half-time lead.

The second half was a cagey affair with AFC Pangbourne piling on the pressure without looking too threatening. However, with 15 minutes to go they pulled a goal back with a long-range volley.

Soon after Henley gave away a foul on the edge of their box which saw Pangbourne level the scores from the resulting free kick.

A few minutes later, another foul on the edge of the box for a free kick, saved by the Henley keeper but he failed to parry the ball away from danger with Pangbourne poking home the rebound.
