Henley secure honours at interclub competitions

HENLEY Golf Club senior men and ladies emerged victorious in their respective interclub competitions last week.

Last Thursday it was Henley’s turn to hosted the annual Ron Stanbrook Competition, with each of the seven clubs in the Reading and District Over 60s Men’s League fielding nine players. The Singles Challenge Cup was won by Henley’s Mike Lynskey, playing off a handicap of seven, who scored 38 Stableford points, one ahead of Paul Power from Sonning Golf Club.

In the team event, where the best six scores of the nine team members counted, Henley again came out on top with 200 points, four ahead of Sonning. East Berkshire were third with 192. Henley were also crowned champions in the ladies’ interclub competition held at Badgemore Park.

The team of six were among 16 clubs from across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire taking part in the annual one-day tournament. The format comprised an 18-hole fourball team event, with players from different clubs mixed together in teams, plus a tally of individual players’ scores to find the overall winning club.
