CHILDREN from Highmoor raised almost £500 from a bake sale in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
Siblings Florence, 11, and Rosie Pritchard, eight, were joined by their neighbours William Dye, six, and Oliver Dye, four, to sell a selection of cakes under a marquee outside organiser Katy Beckford’s home.
The children were helped by their parents and Katy and her husband, 57, who was revived last year following a heart attack. It is the fourth year they have run the stall, which raised £481 in total.
Mrs Beckford, a nurse for the Berkshire Health Foundation, made the cakes, including lemon drizzle, coffee and walnut and chocolate, as well as flapjacks and sausage rolls.
Mary Rugman, from Nettlebed, also donated a homemade plum cake.
Mrs Beckford said: “We started it because the kids wanted to do baking with me. We baked so many cakes. The kids wanted to get involved with the sale this year and we were very pleased with how it went. It was a consistent flow of customers and the kids loved it because they were working out how much change to give. They were fantastic.”
Florence, who attends Cranford School in Wallingford, said: “It was lots of fun doing the cake sale.
“We set up the stall and sold cakes throughout the day to lots of people passing by.
“I enjoyed talking to people who brought a cake. It was nice to do it with my friends.”
