For just £1, children can try metal detecting and keep what they find

DETECTORISTS from the Maidenhead Search Society will be at the show.

The star attraction is the “have a go” detecting opportunity for children.

They are allowed to keep the seeded coins and other metal items they find in a cordoned-off area in the Village. The cost is £1 with all proceeds going to a local charity.

Founded in 1973, the society is one of the oldest metal detecting clubs in the UK.

With a keen focus on history, the founder members envisaged a club with a small membership which maintained the highest standards in its dealings with landowners and the archaeological community.

Maintaining that initial set of values, the society has continued to develop strong relationships with the farming community and landowners across Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Surrey.

Numerous finds of note have been made and all significant finds are recorded for the landowner and with the Portable Antiquities scheme.

The society is not-for-profit organisation and each year donates surplus funds to a range of local and national charities.
